Papers of Lewis Lloyd from Shungnak, Alaska, 1912-1936.
Scope and Contents
This collection primarily contains letters from Lewis Lloyd while living in Shungnak, Alaska, to his nephew William Asquith in Sunderland, England, 1912-1936. In these letters Lewis and Ella Lloyd describe their activities, village life, and their adopted Eskimo child, Jennie Anauok(?). Also included in this collection are two photographs, a map, and two letters from J.P. Asquith, the donor, dated 1965 and 1966. Jennie’s history is described in J.P. Asquith’s 1965 donation letter to Margaret Leibowitz. In addition, J. P. Asquith provides a diagram of family relationships which helps identify family members referenced in the correspondence. The map of Alaska shows the partial route of Mr. Lloyd on his travels in Alaska.
