Immediate Source of Acquisition
This manuscript collection contains the records of Juneau's mortuaries: the C.W. Young Co., the Juneau Young Co. and the C.W. Carter Mortuary, from January 2, 1898 through March 20, 1964. When the business was absorbed by Alaskan Memorial Parks, Inc., of Fairbanks, the records were sent there. Through the efforts of the Gastineau Genealogical Society, Alaskan Memorial Parks returned the original records to Juneau where they were indexed and microfilmed by the Gastineau Genealogical Society and then deposited with the Alaska Historical Library in 1987. The Alaska State Library re-filmed the records in 2003.
Processing Information
Volumes are housed in acid-free boxes. Please note: Microfilm Records Certification page says, “…it is the established policy and practice of this State to microfilm its records and to dispose of the original documents after microfilm reproductions have been made.” In this case original records are retained. Microfilm is available for viewing records.
