Biographical / Historical

Sarah Kathleen Baxter McCool began traveling the country in the 1960s with her husband in a recreational vehicle. They collected postcards along the way. Eventually, they participated in a growing postcard exchange. Sarah Kathleen got her daughters involved. Joann, the eldest, took a particular interest. She did all the organizing and maintenance of the collection and continued collecting postcards from exchanges and antique shops. Joann Baxter Zeisel was born September 17, 1935. She died June 22, 1995, leaving a collection of about 14,000 cards from the various United States to her only grandson, Colin S. Knowles. The family decided to donate the cards to appropriate repositories.

Postcards arrived in sleeves. Original arrangement maintained. Donor’s inventory arrived with collection. Inventory supplied by donor.
