Papers of the Kennecott Copper Mining Corporation, 1920-1942
Scope and Contents
The collection primarily consists of Kennecott Mine operation records ranging from 1920 to 1942. Besides monthly mine production data, there are employee payroll and nationality reports for 1927-1935. Surveying, hospital and administrative records are also included, as well as a small amount of correspondence and a territorial publication. The addition includes various business records including samples of invoices received and two requisition books.

Biographical
Pittman Tom L., Collector, 1909-1992. Tom L. Pittman was born at Lewistown, Montana on December 19, 1909. After receiving a M.S. in metallurgical engineering from the University of Washington in 1933, he worked on mining projects in the U.S. and Africa. In 1957, he joined the U.S. Bureau of Mines at Juneau, Alaska, and in 1980 became State Minerals Officer. In this capacity, Tom Pittman obtained the Kennecott Copper Mining Corp. records. Known not only for his knowledge of mineralogy and mining lore, he was active in the Juneau community and an avid skier until very late in life. He and his wife of 56 years, Pamelia Fergus Pittman, had three children. He died on November 2, 1992.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The records were received from Tom Pittman's wife, Pamelia Pittman, through Willette Janes of the Juneau-Douglas City Museum, in January 1993. Willette Janes made another addition to the records in 1995.
