Scope and Contents
Barbara Winn's diary of trip on the North Star from Juneau to Point Barrow in August and September, 1936 with her friend Louise Jeschien [or Jeschion]. Includes village descriptions of: Hoonah, Yakutat, Cordova, Tatlikelek [Tatitlek], Valdez, Chanega [Chenega], Seward, Sand Point, Elim, Nome, Teller, Cape Prince of Wales, Kotzebue, Kivalina, Wainwright, Barrow, Golovin, St. Michael, Unalakleet, Shaktolik [Shaktoolik], Point Lay, Point Hope, Cape Thompson, and Eklutna. She escorted students from Eklutna Industrial School on the trip back to Anchorage to pay her fare.

Biographical / Historical
Barbara L. Winn, born in Juneau, Alaska, Feb. 9, 1916, took this trip on the North Star, at the age of 20. She brought the diary to the 100-year Juneau Douglas High School reunion in the summer of 2004.
