Frederick Sargent papers, 1860-1906
Scope and Contents
This collection includes correspondence to and from Sargent and his family discussing daily life in Alaska, shipping, etc. Letter press book (ca. 100 pp.) regarding business at the Alaska Commercial Co., Fort Kodiak, 1868-1898. Records of fur trading with the Alaska Natives, weather, weather damage, provisions, interactions with surrounding inhabitants.

Biographical Note
Frederick Sargent was a trader who headed to Alaska after the transfer. He began work with Hutchinson-Kohl Company which became the Alaska Commercial Company. He settled in Kodiak in 1868 and died there 1911, age 83. [From Kodiak and Afognak life, 1868-1870, by E.L. Huggins, 1981.]
