Content Description

The 35 mm transparencies (color and black and white) in this collection represent art pieces purchased by the State of Alaska from 1975-1983. No slides have been received since 1983.

An exhibit catalog entitled Collection describes the artwork purchased from 1975-1980. An additional list is included of acquisitions added after the publication, until 1982.

Resumes of the artists represented are filed at the beginning of the collection.

Biographical / Historical

The Alaska Contemporary Art Bank (ACAB) was founded in 1975 by the Alaska State Council on the Arts.

The Alaska Contemporary Art Bank is part of the Art in Public Places Program, and consists of portable artwork lent for display in public spaces. Artworks are loaned through the Alaska State Council on the Arts to state offices throughout Alaska, including the Alaska Congressional delegation offices in Washington, D.C.

The Art Bank now consists of over 700 art works by Alaskan artists in a wide variety of media, styles and subject matter.

Processing Information

This collection has been described at the folder level. The slides are sleeved in Mylar. All items have been placed in acid free folders and then into an archival box. The catalog, Collection, contains a list of pieces acquired from 1975-1980. An additional list contains works acquired since the publication, until 1982.
