When returning home one rainy morning, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Paconen (Mich.) found this bear very much alive on their doorstep. Mr. ran for a gun; Mrs. fainted, but Mr. returned with another colonist and two rifles. Six shots rang out and the bear fell dead about ten feet from their cabin door.
